Re: instrument lights
I did a bit more searching, I found a local place, well, in Australia anyway that sells them for $1.75 each and $2 postage.

Re: instrument lights
For US Spider drivers, I would recommend http://www.superbrightleds.com to get whatever leds you want. Have delat with them a number of times with good results. They have the 194 replacement bulbs in a variety of colors and intensity levels.

Re: instrument lights
The beam angle refers to the pattern of light the LED emits.
A light bulb for a table lamp has the widest possible beam because it emits light in all directions (except for the base). A light bulb with a reflector has a narrower beam because the reflector forces the light in a specific direction.
For gauge illumination a wide angle LED is the best. An inverted lens led spreads the light out like a filament bulb. A frosted lens LED will do the same. Gauges have rings to direct the light on to the face of the gauge. Or the numbers are back lit through the face of the gauge. Either way there needs to be a lot of light bouncing around in the gauge to reach the gauge face. This is why the inside of gauges are white. A LED or bulb with a narrow beam would cause bright and dark spots on the face of the gauge or a dim gauge face.
A focused lens LED would be used for a indicator light because you want the light to straight out and get your attention.
Also too improve the vibrance of the light match the color of LED to the color of the lens. Red to red, green to green, blue to blue.
I hope this answered your question. I'm a engineer and my wife accuses me of being to verbose.

Re: instrument lights
I'm book marking this thread. I have the original bulbs from the factory. Haven't turned my car on yet, so I don't know how bright, but I've always enjoyed red lights on dashes. Do you have a picture of your dash lit up with these? I'd love to see that. I'm sure everyone else would too. Please? THANKS!
