Trunk Rubber fuel line sizes to 3 way valve?

Post by Fiat88 »

My trunk has always smelled of fuel. My car still has the original braided hoses that I want to replace. What sizes are the three which go to the tank? Appreciate any help. Eventually will replace all the fuel hoses.

I replaced all my vent hoses with 5/16" (8mm), same size as the supply. Replacing all hoses in the trunk made a huge difference in smell.

Tip: a mo skosh of dish soap on fuel line nipples makes installing tight hoses a little easier.

Thanks for the info. How do you remove the original crimped on hose clamps? Should I use FI type clamps even though mines carbed?

Tin snips on the raised part, exacto knife on the hose. Napa has these. Show AAA card for discount at Napa.

Use care with nipples on plastic valves; they've become brittle after all these years. After removing clamp, slice the hose lengthwise to remove. Gently!

Quality worm clamps are fine for carb cars; only 3 psi in those lines.

The down side of 'worm clamps' is that they tend to cut into the hose when they are tightened. Often using the 'worm clamps' can result in fuel leaks at the fitting down the road. We never used worm clamps on race cars... in fact we would remove the brass fittings at the carb and replace them with threaded fittings to prevent them from falling out (which does happen).

There are various styles off smooth clamps and many can be purchased locally. Another thing to consider.... replace your old braided fuel hose. The cloth covering can make it difficult to see cracking in the rubber underneath.

I would spring for the extra few bucks and buy some safety. If you have ever been a car fire... you will surly agree.
