1981 FI Glitch this morning.

Post by emosfiat »

Well after a good driving day yesterday the little stinker let me down this morning. When I tried to start it I heard a backfire and then it began to run but died soon after. I tried to start it again. It started but died again soon after. It sounds like timing or ignition. Just putting it out there to get some opinions. I haven't had a chance to take a close look at it yet. Thanks guys.

Depending on where the backfire was it's a possibility that the flap in the AFM was bent. When you're checking the intake boot as Mark suggested also look closely at the flap and make sure it's not bent and that it's moving freely through the full range of motion.

Thanks guys for the input. When I finely got a chance to look at her I did find that the backfire knocked the intake boot off of the air flow meter. It actually broke the clamp somehow. The intake was in good shape, no cracks or splits. She is running great now. Beautiful drive to work this morning. Thanks again.
