Assistance with Vendor please
Hey guys - I need your opinion on this one. I need to be factual in what I say so this may be lengthy since this issue deals with a frequent vendor/poster on this site who will most likely be reading this. In Dec of last year I bought some stuff from this vendor. There were 2 orders placed at different times. Both were promptly paid by PayPal. The first smaller order was supposedly shipped to my cousin's house in NJ. The second, larger order was supposed to be picked up at his place. I live in Toronto so I planned to pick the stuff up at my cousin's house (first order) as well as the vendor's (second order) in Jan of this year. When I went to my cousin's house, there was no shipment. I phoned the vendor to tell him since I was going to be there the next day. He said that 2 boxes were shipped separately and that my cousin misplaced them. I hardly think so since I have 1-2 shipments from eBay going to that address every month with NO issues. He says he has shipment confirmation but can't prove it. I have a 100% rating on eBay that I take pride in. I went back to my old emails and confirmed that the address was correct. I even forwarded this email to the vendor. I was able to pick the second order up at this house with no issues.
Well to make a long story short, the vendor has been ignoring my emails all summer and finally when I got frustrated he said if I come over to his place he will replace the parts. Well I plan to be down there this month and guess what, the vendor is ignoring my emails again even though he has responded to other posters here.
I realize that ~ 98% of orders go off without a hitch but an honorable vendor would try to work with the customer for the other 2% of orders that go wrong. It also pi--es me off if the first thing they do is blame the customer.
I realize that by posting here this vendor and I will be through but am I wrong here in trying to rectify the situation since it's really bugging the crap out of me? If I am wrong I will accept this an move on.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Kurt

Was there tracking on the shipments? If so, find out where they were sent. I don't know why a vendor would ignore your emails. Try calling them and see if you can work this out. It has been a long time since you ordered this stuff. Didn't you contact your cousin to see if the parts arrived?

Re: Assistance with Vendor please
I ordered the parts in Dec 2010. I contacted my cousin in Dec/Jan. My orders from eBay arrived but not his. I went down in Jan and the parts still didn't arrive. I promptly told him then. I went to his house to pick up the larger order and then he told me he'll be parting out cars in the coming months and he'll give me the replacement parts so to contact him. Since the Spring he's been ignoring my emails. Then I got frustrated in the summer and asked him that the least he could do was communicate to me and if he's not going to honor his committment then I will chalk it up as a lesson learned and walk away. But he kept tagging me along. Once I told him I was coming down in mid Sept the communication stopped again.
He can't provide any confirmation of the original shipment. The cost of the first order isn't the issue now since it was only ~$25. Thanks goodness I picked up the second order which was close to $200.
You're right though. I should have called him after 2-3 weeks of him supposedly shipping the order to say it did not arrive. I just assumed that when my cousin said that a few packages arrived, they include the ones from him.
Thanks for the input.

Probably not what you want to hear but I have stopped dealing with Canadian orders. For some reason the parts never make it to Canada or wherever a Canadian wants their parts delivered. Must be something lost in translation. Ship to Finland, Chile, Tawain Europe Australia etc... Never a problem. Hell even the Canary Islands was easy. Ship something to Canada, never again...
Just my experience. And yea I know you never had a problem before....

You're right. I've never had an issue before........not with my numerous eBay orders, IAP orders (they rectified their error when it happened once), FUN Imported orders, Tire Rack orders, Summit Racing orders, JEGS orders, Harbor freight orders....

Hi,
What do you mean by "Vendor"?
I have come to realize I am going to be robbed on occasion via FIAT-related eBay/PayPal transactions, $30 just last night in fact, but these are usually although not yet exclusively private individuals rather than what I would term Vendors.
I'm guessing the passage of time barred any recourse through PayPal, not they ever display any urgency to assist in the first place?
I would love the individual's name/internet pseudonym, via PM of course, as I am weary of being had via my lovely toy.
Ciao,
Mark

Hi Kurt,
Just so there is no misunderstanding I am not a vendor. I'm just one of the club guys here in NJ. I have never had a problem with delivery or with any person on this site. About a month ago I sold a used radiator to another site member. Well it turns out it had a leak. I gladly refunded not only the purchase price but shipping price as well. Not because I had to. I just thought it was the right thing to do.
Now I'm sure that you don't follow our weather reports here on the East Coast. We had a Hurricane here.I was without power or internet for 5 days. I did see your emails today and answered them. I don't duck emails.
Know let me ask you. If you had shipped two packages to another NJ address with delivery confirmation and were told they had arrived and upon speaking in person with the buyer in person a few months later you were told that they did not arrive would you ship to that address again? Sorry I will not do that.
I also recall that all of your order was replaced with the exception of a radiator bracket, two axle bump stops and some wire holders from the engine bay. I now have those items and will replace them as I said I would.
I do not have any of the other parts you requested at this time. I'm sorry that my responces have not been as quick as you would like. I work a 60 hour week and sometimes I just plain old don't turn on my computer.
The 17th will be fine as I stated in my email. You are also welcome to attend the breakfast and lunch maint day on the 11th if you are down this way. Regards, George

Hi Kurt,
Shame on me for not reading your whole post in detail. Are you infering that I did not ship your items and I am not an honorable person? Please reply to this post as I want to make sure there is no misunderstanding in what I think our saying.

Lanciaf - sorry to hear you won't deal with Canadians. I have never had a problem with parts being delivered to me in Canada. They generally take longer to arrive than one would like - usually 3 - 4 weeks - but they have always gotten here eventually.
The interesting thing about this situation is that the parts weren't even delivered to Canada! They were delivered to a US address.
Your loss, I suppose...

My experience is that he would give you the shirt off his back. He left parts for me to pickup and get out of a jam, and pay him later, not many people would do that for someone.

Re: Assistance with Vendor please
Hi Opus,
No need to ask anyone for a pm. I'm the person that Kurt is talking about. I sir am not a thief or a deadbeat. I am also not a vendor. Just a guy with a hobby. Seems that I didn't pay enough attention to Kurts email to suit him. Seems he may be infering that I did not ship something. I sir was very suprised when he showed up at my house and told me that his items did not arrive. Never had that happen before. Seems that the second package also did not arrive. Well I always try to do the right thing. So I replaced the items that did not arrive with the exception of 3 small parts. I told kurt that when we took apart the next parts car I would have the parts. No he did not ask for a refund which I would have gladly given him. As a matter of fact he stayed and had lunch with a bunch of our club members at my home. Not the kind of behavior you would expect from someone trying to cheat you is it? Well we took apart a parts car and I now have the parts. He is coming on the 17th to pick up the parts when he is down visiting his cousin. Kurt knows that I am not a vendor and that this is our club hobby. If I was a vendor and had ignored his emails or refused him a refund he would have a right to be pissed. But that is not the case.
Now sir what may I do for you that you would require a pm for my information? Feel free to pm me your phone number and I will give you a call. I will be glad to answer any of your questions as I have nothing to hide nor have I done anything dishonorable.
Regards, George

Re: Assistance with Vendor please
Guys - I didn't read all the details of the responses but in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM did I ever imply that George was a thief and I don't think he is. This post is getting is more than I anticipated. All I need is communication to say that I'll get back to you or I won't have the parts ready when you come down or you're out of luck. But when I see no communication (and this was to email prior to Irene) and other folks requiring parts are getting communication at the identical time that I posted then I feel that I am being ignored deliberately.
I'm am not here to make enemies since I need folks on this site to assist me in restoring my car. However I still believe that if an order goes awry, then both the seller and buyer need to resolve it. Anyway, I'll leave it at that.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Assistance with Vendor please
Hi Brady,
Yes he did. First time I heard about them not arriving was when he showed up at our Fiat day at my house. Two packages with delivery confirmation. Both missing. I do have his parts now. They came off of the blue 79 spider. I of course will not ship the items to his cousins house. So let me ask you as you are a vendor. If you had a confirmed delivery and the customer tells you a few months later that the packages did not arrive what would you do. I have a pretty good idea what you would do. I decided to replace the order when we took another parts car apart. Had to wait for a spider with the parts. They came from the last spider.
What now has me aggravated is that it seems that Kurt is infering that I did not ship the order. He also has asked me if I have other parts he wants to buy. . Go figure, George

Hi Kurt,
Did you get my email from today? Is this issue resolved to you satisfaction? If not I will gladly refund your money. I have the three parts that you need. I will also see if anyone here has the additional parts you requested. Any chance you can change your day to the 11th. We will be having a club event at my house. Fiats, breakfast and lunch included.
