Carb fuel problem - Fuel Supply??

I have a weird problem I can not identify. If I run my spider (1976 1800) from the electric fuel pump and mechanical pumps I get to 3000rpm and after a few minutes it will die. (Runs out of gas) If I squirt ether in it, it will keep on stumbling along. If I run it off an aux hanging fuel tank it runs fine up thru 3000 and on..? I know the hanging tank has virtually no pressure just hanging off the hood latch a foot above the carb. i also had this problem without the mechanical pump as that was the first thing I took off.
if I turn the key on the electric pump will run the tank dry into a can though, so what the he.. is going on here? Any ideas would be grand cause I have had the car now for a year and have yet to drive it more than a couple miles...

old fuel lines will colapes under the vacume caused by pulling fuel from the tank

how old are your lines?
a bad fuel filtter will clog up after running a bit.
have you changed the filtter latley?

I pulled the tank and found the problem, it wasn't rust but looked more like black dirt. Flushed the tank out good re-installed and now its fine. Just gotta figure out the weird noises in the front end now.

do you have stock bushings?
also the swaybar bushings?

aftermarket ones are noisy.they need love juice.joe
