All of the instrument light bulbs are 194. The indicator lights are 194 as well.

How old are the bulbs?
Bulbs dim over time. Also the dimmer rheostat might be affecting the brightness of the bulbs.

I'm going to try some LEDs in place of the stock bulbs. I have what I think are the right ones left over from another project, so the next time I have the dash apart, I'll experiment.

I put red leds into my dash this year and I like the result. I go them from http://www.autolumination.com.
I put a blue led in the hi beam indicator, now I can see that sucker. With a bulb in it you barely see it in total darkness.

My gripe with the web site is that they don't list part numbers on the listing page. Just a lot of choices.

Cut and paste of the led I used for gauge lighting.
"The Widest, 194 168 W5W 2825 Ever Made!
Outfitted with the latest Super Wide High-Flux low profile Leds
Designed especially for gauges, & applications requiring a super-wide large uniform field of bright light
Only 10mm diameter x 26mm overall"
Cut and paste from the cart page.
"T10 Wedge
Item # Super Wide
Color: [color], Lens: 194"

For the high beam indicator
"4- Star SMT
Outfitted with Four of the latest Super High-Flux low profile Leds.
Designed especially for gauges, and constant-on applications requiring extra cooling and regulated current flow
11mm diameter x 19mm overall"
Cut and paste from the cart page
"T10 Wedge
Item # 4-Star
Color: [color], Lens: 194"
These LEDs are polarity sensitive, so flip them if they don't work.

Interesting that they're $5.99USD, a similar site in Australia has them for $16AUD. The website is not particularly user friendly, do you know if they do international sales?

Cheers,

Mick.
