Hi,
My hood pads are in states of terrible disrepair, it would appear the PO used leftover paint to re-adhere them after the re-spray, and they are tearing away from the surface in ugly clumps of matted insulation.
I love the original look, but can't abide the source of new ones, so...
I'm going to strip them down, strip off the loose insulation, strip the hood surface of insulation and goos, then:
Apply a piece of CLD tile (http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/cld) to each trapezoid to prevent buzzing and drumming.
Cover the trapezoids fully with single pieces of EZ Cool insulation (http://www.lobucrod.com/), which I'm also going to use on the transmission tunnel and footwells.
Cover the EZ Cool with the original cleaned quilting vinyl.
I'm thinking the quilting may be too thin without some sort of filler, but I won't know until I strip it.
Would anyone care to provide any insight into adhesives or materials?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark, sounds like you have a good game plan. On an 83 i had some years ago I custom cut dynomat sheets and stuck them to the underside of the hood. Cleaned up real nice and looked good too.
I had a 76 in high school that I ran without any insulation under the hood for a couple years. Sold it that way and think I was fortunate that I never had any issues with paint/heat. Car was very loud!
However, on the current 82' spider I took the pad off and lined the pad with 3 inch nylon tape on the back side to re-enforced the edges where the clips had worn the padding and around the center opening where there was some small tearing. I then sprayed a can of the ruberrized stuff for the underside of a car that you can get at any Auto store to firm the shape and insulate. After the ruber coat had dried I then sprayed a flat black high heat engine spray paid to dress it up and seal just in case the heat had an impact of the rubber. Picture below shows some of the hood pad. You can buy new clips to hold your pad in place at any autozone cheap. I think i used the Nissan clips based on the diameter of the round flat part and depth of the clip itself and they worked great.

Closer inspection has me thinking I'm going to need a layer of glass mat just for thickness and loft.akavinn1 wrote:Looking for the same thing my self my car is a 75 and not sure what years had the same quilting was trying to find a used one for the passenger side but no luck yet !
