32/36 EMPI tuning

Post by azygoustoyou »

I have a brand new 32/36 Empi carb. Does it have the desired jets in it or should I replace them :?:
I will be doing spirited driving. I do want good gas mileage though. I could control the foot  to help with the mileage.
It would be nice if you can explain the difference in the jets so I can have a little knowledge of them when I'm ready for a more of a sporty cruise.
Thanks

Mine was totally plug and play. No rejetting required. Runs fantastic! I did have to adjust the idle mix and speed, but otherwise it's been a great investment.

we've only had to rejet when using on a 2L, and that has mostly been the low speed jet on the primary

My 2L with 1800 Intake manifold and EMPI 32/36 was not plug and play. It would run, and drive, but not well.

Stock jetting was:
primary idle jet - .055
secondary idle jet -.050

I have gone to .065 and .055 and it is running much better, but still not ideal. I am going to experiment with even slightly larger next week.

The good news is, the jets could not possibly be easier to change. The bad news is, I couldn't find a local source for them - gotta order. I can get jets for 45 year old motorcycle carbs locally, but not a Weber. Annoying.

I don't want to bud in, but Mark, in the post right above from Allison's has them in stock I believe. You may give him a jingle or email. I know when I have ordered from him it is super fast shipping. He also seems to be very unselfish with sharing knowledge and helping troubleshoot problems in quite a few of the posts on here..

I have gone to .70/.65 (1979 2L, 78 1800 intake manifold, 4\2\1 exhaust manifold, EMPI 'racing' air cleaner) and it is like an entirely different car. It's still probably not dialed in, but it has nothing but pull now, even from lugging it away in second gear. Finally feels like it can handle modern traffic!

Also, I suggest ordering from Mark, but if that's not an option for some reason, I was impressed by the price and time to delivery that I got from webercarbsdirect.com

I also have the 32/36 Empi with a 2L block and 1800 head and it is running great - completely stock... Now I am wondering if it is worth trying the other jets...

My initial jetting was actually smaller than what EMPI\Mark said I should have... Every carb and car is likely going to respond differently. If it is great the way it is, I wouldn't bother.
