Greetings:
I'm slowly getting mt '78 Spider back on the road. Last time I drove it, it had a tendnacy to pop out of first gear while either under accelleration, or coasting down a grade. If I keep slight pressure on it with my shift hand, it stays put, not like it wants to force its way out. Any ideas what I'm looking at? The trans is original, probably 150k plus on it and never a squawk out of it. Could this be a simple linkage issue? Engine/clutch/differential all refreshed about 20K ago.
Thanks!
Popping out of 1st
Re: Popping out of 1st
Sounds like a tranny issue that is common with 124s. While in there, work on the entire thing and fix all gears.

Re: Popping out of 1st
mine does this in 2nd gear.
So I've been looking for a 131 trans to transplant in behind my warmed-up 2L, but can't seem to find one.
So is there a "kit" available that would include all the wear-items in the trans? Such that I could go through and install the whole 'kit' and end with a like-new trans?
And is this worth it?

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

I'm afraid I'm nowhere near that talented! I wouldn't dare get in there and touch anything! I'm assuming then that this is an expensive fix?velozi wrote:Sounds like a tranny issue that is common with 124s. While in there, work on the entire thing and fix all gears.

The syncromesh is damaged. They are made out of brass. Call your local trani guy and like everybody said do a complete job.
