Greetings:
What are the proper jacking points for front/rear lifting on a '78 124 Spider? I see what looks like a jacking point front center just under the radiator, but it looks awful flimsy, as though the weight would be supported by the radiator itself...NOT a chance I want to take. As for the rear, I don't see anything at all that resembles a proper point other than simply sliding the jack under one side or the other of the axle. Is it OK to lift from the differential housing? (Is that what I see referred to as the "pumpkin"?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Front/rear jacking points?
you have 4 official jack point on these cars. 2 on each side. look just under each rocker panel. one is just behind the front tire and the other just forward of the rear tire. I have jacked my front end from the center of the cross member. I have also jacked the rear from the center of the pumpkin, using a 2x4 with a hole drilled in it for the drain plug.

No don't try jacking under the radiator. VERY expensive mistake.
As Azruss, trolley jack under the centre of the diff or hard in behind the brake backplate, up to the tube, NEVER under the axle tube itself at midway. To lift the front, you need a very low trolley jack to get under and behind the sump. The main crossmember is about 1 & 1/2 inch behind the sump but gearbox is just behind that. I need to go in diagonally from infront of wheel to get behind sump.
Alternatively, if you are that way inclined get 2x 2foot long pieces of 3" thick pine say 8"wide and cut a ramp off one end of each. Drive up onto those and you get 3" extra clearance to get your trolley /floor jack under.
