Hi all. I am somewhat confused by my distributor. Let me give you some history first. 1980 carb model. Someone replaced block (before I bought her) with a 1974 (1756cc) and a head from a 1976 (1800cc). Distributor is stock though. I have basically rebuilt the engine but now while trying to install the distributor with the pointer facing the mark on casing wich is just to the left of the vac advance. Where should the front of the distributor be facing? If this is clear like mud let me know and I can go further into detail.... The engine does run but at a very fast idle.
Thanking you all in advance.

Re: 1980 distributor
the dizzy can be located 360 degrees. when the timing is at TDC, the rotor should be pointed connecting to #4 contact on the cap. The dizzy can be pulled and relocated to align the cap any way you want.
Re: 1980 distributor
Thank you Joe. I am going to go and try that now. I will repost with results.
Re: 1980 distributor
Engine is running. Turns out that the carburator is also untuned. I now need to set timing and adjust the carb. Unfortunately its a 28/32 ADHA...I will replace it as soon as I can. I also found a damaged vaccum hose (large one off the intake). Fixed that and vroom. Still alot of work to do but at least she runs. Thanks again for your assistance. I hope I can return the favor some day.
