Carburetor Difference

Is there a difference between a Weber 32/36 and an EMPI carburetor or are they the same thing?
I am replacing a 32ADFA on a 78 Spider. Will I need to buy jets or will it come with the correct ones. I have seen some posts where they are switched to make the car idle better. Just wondering what to expect with the new carb.

I too have a '78, and am contemplating the same issues, and here's what I "know":

Probably not worthwhile with the stock 4-1 '78 exhaust. I'm upgrading to pre-75 FIAT 4-2-1, some choose a header instead.

The EMPI is the Weber - produced under license in China. Parts should be completely interchangeable: YMMV.

Proper jetting can vary based on other parameters, such as exhaust, cam and ignition modifications. No one seems willing to hazard a baseline recommendation, and I'm unaware of the in-box configurations.

Price-wise the EMPI is carrying a premium, I don't understand why.

I ordered a carb and some breather hoses and such. I removed my intake and plugged some holes. I'm trying to maintain everything under there I can think of doing. I took my starter off to just rebuild it so it would be like new because I thought it would be tough to get out from the bottom. I can't even imagine trying to pull that starter out from underneath. I'm convinced pulling the intake to get to it is easier.
I cleaned out the steering gear and put in new Gear Oil. Before it goes back together I'm going to get rid of that little fill plug and put a plug in there that a guy can actually take out without removing the top. I read about that in another post, good idea right there.
I broke the short 90 for the vapor canister so I hope the one I ordered will fit (with modifications I have read in another post).

What would be a ball park figure for an exhaust upgrade add up to if you mind me asking.

I found a reconditioned manifold at Midwest-Bayless, $187, and Vick's has the 1800 downpipe, $87.

C. Obert has the manifolds in various states of repose from $65+S/H.

(Many choose the header route ($310 - $650+). To me it was a question of sound and underhood heat.)

I bought a NOS Abarth exhaust, $425, from the guy in the Parts for Sale section, looks great - should sound great.

Gaskets, exhaust nuts (don't ask), hangers, bloody ridiculously overpriced hanger brackets, extra hanger (ANSA via IAP), SS hardware: $95

My carb is ordered from Mark. He sells the linkage kits and I was thinking about that and seen some just modified the weber linkage. Is the linkage kit really necessary or is the mod OK.

the linkage kit is mainly for 77-79 cars, what year is yours?

Mine is a 1978. I thought I would try to modify mine with parts from my original carb. Will this be too much work or will it even work?

it's really very easy. Remove the lever with the ball stud from the old carb and install it on the new carb

I swapped a webber for one of Marks Empi's, Very happy with the results. Mark was very helpfull getting it set up on my car.

Installed carburetor, pretty easy. I can tell the difference in power for sure. I unhooked one set of points but didn't mess with the timing, do I really need to? I'm putting on a new cap,rotor and points/condenser on Monday or Tues.

At least I know its running cool. I changed out my radiator for Marks aluminum radiator and fan this spring. That was nice being in 104 degree weather and stuck in traffic (and running at 190). People were probably wondering why I was smiling baking in the hot sun.
