New engine in
Today we finished the installation of the new engine in the car. 2L 4.5 dommed pistons, big valves and springs and performance camshaft from IAP. I also install a Innovate MTX-L wideband O2 sensor right after the 90 at the begining of the single pipe. The engine was delivered at TDC whit the adjuatable crank pulley set to 0 and when i put the original crank pulley, the mark was in line with the top arrow from the indicator witch is bolt on the engine. Since i will go on Ford Edis system as soon as Jason receive is VR sensor witch is suppose to be in mid october , i put the Jason Miller pulley in to mark the pulley at the same place as the original. You have to remove the timing bracket to install the Jason Miller pulley so i mark the engine for timing reference. The engine start pretty good and when we adjust the timing to 10 degrees, the idle was i little rought and was adjust around 1000 RPM or it will stall. On a try run , the engine start to pink so we stop everything. The engine was idling at around 14:1 and as soon as i hit the gaz it goes around 12:1 and even 10:1. So i have lots of gaz for my engine and i can also put more tension on the spring in the AFM to have a leaner mix. At less advance the idle was much smoother. is it possible that i have to much advance that cause the pinking of the engine and the rought idle? Engine wwill be run on 93 octane but now it's 87 with octane booster in the tank.

14:1 is right on the ragged edge; my guess is that you're too lean at idle. Perhaps you've got the OE EFI settings, which may not work with HP aftermarket parts. I know nothing about EFI, but carb guys generally won't run leaner than 13:1 under any circumstance with today's fuels.
Ensure that your cams are dialed in to the specs provided with them. Also valve adjustments per the cam manufacturer. Always start with the numbers supplied with the parts. Cam timing and valve adjustment radically affect "dynamic compression ratio" (Google it).
You sure don't want to be melting those new pistons

First off 14:1 is not on the ragged edge for idle as stoichiometric air/fuel is 14.7:1 and at idle you are looking for the a lean best idle condition and when you hit the gas the ratio will jump because the ecm need to enrichment the mixture in order to accelerate. I think you need to provide a little more info on your setup, what performance cams? 40-80 or 41-82? Did you degree the cams? Using adjustable camshaft pulleys? Timing at neg 10 degree? Vacuum advance disconnected when timing the engine? Do you have an accurate TDC mark (not the front cover)? Sorry these may sound trivial to some but little errors have big effects when using performance cams.

I think your pinking is the 87 octane fuel, you really need many many bottles of octane booster to have any effect on the overall octane rating, do the math, its shocking! I bet you get some good chevron high octane and she will be free of the pinking...sounds like a sweet motor, I hope she works out well with the FI.

Ok let's answer some questions:
40-80 cam
Vick adjustable cam pulley set to 0 at TDC
As soon as i got my VR sensor i will install megasquirt (mid October )
Do i have to retard or advance the cam timing?

Also no difference with the vaccum disconnect or not.

Almost no vaccum at 1000 RPM. Is this normal?

Print the one on the website and glue it to cardboard and tape it on the flywheel

How to loose a week end playing with the cam...
Ending reading Guy Croft website to learn that i have to set the intake cam open 40 degrees before TDC and ex cam close 40 degrees after TDC.
Adjustements was done in 15 minutes this morning. I suppose i have some pratice...

Where do you suppose they came up with "40-80" for the cam description
