32/36 Empi Carb Adjusting Question

Post by donerehart »

I purchased one of Mark's Empi's and it has been great. This week something weird started happening and I need some help... When I let off the gas it often only idles down to about 1500-2000. If I tap the accelerator pedal then it will reset at the normal idle speed. What would be the cause of such a thing?
Thanks,
Don

It's electric choke... It's not the manual throttle setting either... any other ideas? This doesn't happen all the time.
Thanks!

There should be a minimum of 2 and possibly as many as 4 accelerator linkage return springs. There is one spring at the pedal up in the foot well. There are 2 return springs on the linkage mounted on the cam box. Finally most carbs have a circular wound spring on the throttle shaft that helps it return to closed position.

Check that you have at least 2 return springs, the more the better. Lube the areas of the linkage that pivot/rotate, also lube the cable/sheath on the accelerator cable.

Thanks Matt... I got under dash and the spring is fine, but the two nuts that hold the white plastic covers over the accelerator rod connected to the pedal were loose and almost ready to fall off. I tightened them and will see how it works. Seems to work without bind now...
I appreciate it.
