Anyone know anything about timing light troubleshooting?

Hi,

Seems the eBay timing light I bought is missing something in the inductive clamp.

On the larger part of the clamp there's a U-shaped piece of what I'll guess is ferrite, on the movable jaw there is nothing, but it looks like there could/should be a small square cylinder of something, "ferrite" again or will a strip of steel suffice?

Mine's got a piece of the same ferrite metal on the movable side of the clamp. Perhaps the PO let the clamp "snap" shut too many times, and broke it free (and gone). Good news if you bought it with PayPal, as their new rules are very favorable to buyers (and ridiculous for sellers ).

The seller was stand up and has refunded me including shipping and I still have the light to fix.
