anyone know why my white spider is full of mold? I've washed it off today with citrus spray, like windex spray bottle cleaner.
I've got the same crud on another car, but not on 4 others.

Do you park those two under the same tree but not the others? I have a birch tree that this year put out a fine mist of sticky stuff that coated the whole truck. Fortunately it comes off easily.

Is said mold only around the gas tank filler?

Why do you ask? My car is kind of "blackened" around the gas cap, and it was sitting outside, unprotected for years before I acquired it.rrrrob wrote:Is said mold only around the gas tank filler?

Re: mold on the car body?
First let me say I'm not sure I believe this myself, but it is the explanation I received.
One of my other cars is an 81 RX-7 and sense the day I got it I have had an issue with a black substance that will periodically show up around the gas filler area if the car isn't washed down on a regular basis. I was told that the strange black spotty film was some sort of mold and that is was coming from the gas. I was told it had something to do with the reformulated ethanol gas we have here. The car is not driven currently, thus no new gas, no activity, etc. it just sits.
I find this hard to believe. But, it keeps coming back if left alone. I even had the car stripped & repainted and after a couple months of sitting it was back. In the same basic area around the gas filler. It is in the open, not under trees, on a concrete driveway. As I said I'm having a hard time believing but... there has been no other explanation other than gas fumes, creating film, attracting something maybe... not sure. Don't have the problem with the ones that sit inside the garage.

Re: mold on the car body?
This is how the car looked when I first spotted it in an old service yard, where it had been sitting like this for a few years with old gas:
Now it looks worse, having sat outside but with new gas in it. I am not with the car now, but will be toward the end of the week, and can snap a pic of the same area, now more blackened. As I mentioned, the change of gas in the tank, as well as a light car wash, was the only change.

Re: mold on the car body?
Yes, Wikkid, my white car looks like that if I don't give it a regular wash. I initially thought i had oil leaking and
spraying in the wind along the underside of the car and up the back. The gas filler area gets dirty looking along with the
back of the car, but so does the whole car. Inside the trunk flanges rain gutter, same in the hood flanges and front, fenders, hood, etc. I washed the whole car the other day with citrus cleaner in a spray bottle. I haven't waxed it yet as I wanted to
give it a really good water rinse. Local rain has helped. I just dont' want to put wax onto a car with a soap residue.
Could be general pollution, except my other cars don't have this.

Cell phone pic of current condition, after sitting awhile with new gas in it:
