air intake hose WARNING

Post by htchevyii »

I guess this is a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I saw IAP had a sale on their FI air intake hose and mine is somewhat petrified, although wasn't torn or leaking as far as I knew. So, I replaced the hose as well as the alternator with a reman, (I could hear a little bearing noise). I also took the cover off of the AFM, but the resistor track looked really good, so I just cleaned it and put it back togeather. When I started the car, I noticed it idled much slower than before. I thought maybe the old hose did have a vacuum leak, so I readjusted the idle. But, when the car warmed up, it idled way too fast. Waited until it cooled off and went thru the process again. Fast forward a few hours...I thought maybe I screwed up the AFM, so I switched it, removed and checked IAC valve, etc, etc. It turns out the new air intake hose was blocked where the IAC attaches, SO IT WASN"T WORKING! I kinda wish I would have left the damn thing alone!

IAP was very responsive and is correcting the issue and checking their inventory, so unless you allready purchased one, it should be fine

I trimmed it with an Exacto knife, that was the easy part. Figuring out the problem

I bought the air intake hose from IAP around the same time you did as well. It was on sale and I bought it as a spare. Now I have to check to see if this one is plugged.

Sounds like someone at the factory took his (or her) lunch break just a t the time the hole was supposed to be punched. But hey, it gave you a chance to keep your diagnostic talents from getting rusty.
That problem aside Trey, how good does the material of the new one seem to be?

The hose seems fine other than that, it was on sale for 21 bucks. Just wanted to save someone else the trouble I went thru.

IAP said they are checking their inventory and fixing the problem, so unless you allready bought one, it should be fine. Other than that, a good part at a good price.
