looks like you've got the wrong latch pin. see if anyone has the same hood style and can shoot you a pix of the right one.

Hi Joe,
you should actually post all the pics here that you did in the other post. It looked like you may have several pieces from different models. I saw a center hood support and the remains of a side support. You may have 2 different latch components as well. Also the hood is miss aligned. My guess is the hood was replaced with an earlier one than came with the car. But you would have to post all the pics and see who recognizes the different pieces.

First thing I'd suggest is sorting out the pieces you have and make sure they all are supposed to work together. Then I'd align the hood. Once the hood is aligned I'd install and align the latch.

good luck

Heres what mine looks like, 78 also, latches fine when droped from 6-8"

Looks like the same latch bar to me, but the underside of your hood looks different.
Hows the adjustments on the latch? can you adjust it closer?

The seals on the insides of the fender to the hood on mine seem to be upside down(rubber curl facing downward) but if I turn them over my hood wont shut & wouldn't lay flat w/ fenders if it did.
Maybe this is an issue w/ yours too.

Looks like different hood years. The placement is different and the holes look different.

Looking at your other hood post it looks like you have a big bump hood?
Maybe you need the hood latch bar from the same to get it to latch correct. (guessing)
