Distributor Rebuild Parts Source

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

Does anyone know where can I get the bearing(s), springs, etc. to rebuild a single-point Marelli – FIAT 124 TC distributor myself?

Thanks,
Mark
...Yes; I know what it means: Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino.

Several of the vendors carry the bearings, but if you remove the existing bearings and take them to your local bushings/bearings store they should be able to match them up, and it will be much cheaper. The bearing dimensions in mm should be on the plastic dust shield on the sides of the bearing. I'm sure there is a SKF equivalent bearing.

The springs: that's a tough one, I've never seen anyone ever carry or list the springs for these distributors. You can try to find a good used distributor and use the springs from that, or the local auto parts store should carry a pack of 6 springs, 3 sets of 2 springs in varying rates, but you would need to know the advance curve of your existing Marelli distributor to match up the springs, It will be a trial and error thing.

Cam box mounted or block mounted distributor? I've seen new block mounted units available from Germany and Argentina on Ebay. Every now and then a new cam box mounted unit will be up for sale, but not cheap.

Hi Matt,

Thanks. I just bought a used single-point distributor to replace my '78's, purely for its curve. I didn't want to take it apart completely ignorant, thanks for letting me know there are markings to follow.

I'm not afraid of distributors, but without a distributor bench I'm leery of trial and error, one of the reasons I bought the piece in the first place, like everything else about my car: I just want to put it right after 33-years of it being abused by poseurs and pinheads...

From a 1608, supposed to be 5-24deg (850-3500rpm) at the crank, but I suddenly can't relocate my references...

Thanks,
Mark
