Reverse Light Lens Rehab?

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

Has anyone tried anything like Mother's Headllight Restoration polish, http://www.mothers.com/02_products/08808.html, on the CS1 Spider reverse light lenses?

Thanks,
Mark

If the outer lens needs to be polished Eastwood has a lens polishing kit that works great. All it is is a fine polishing compound you use with water. The kit comes with a really small buffing pad, I placed it in my small, variable speed, corded drill, and it work's great. Remember to go slow, to fast causes heat, not good on plastic lens's. You can adjust a veritable speed drill to a slow max speed if this gives you better control. Removes oxidation and fine scratches nicely. Be sure to leave the lens in place to polish the outer surface. It needs the support, you could catch it with the drill otherwise and ruin it. The biggest issue with dim lens is usually dirt inside, for that soak in dawn dish soap and water until everything has a chance to loosen up, the dawn helps cut grease. Then use an old SOFT tooth brush and gently remove unwanted dirt.

I've used this method to refurbish plastic lens's for some time with no issue.

Hope it helps

Oh.. and once your done give the outer surface a good coat of old school past wax to protect the surface from oxidation. Remember an old school wax not one of the new ones with a chemical that might cloud or fog the surface. Other wise you'll be starting over.
