Removing Exhaust manifold any tricks

Post by clarkedj »

I am going to remove the exhaust manifold on my 78 and replace the gasket. Are their any tricks or areas I need to be aware of? A friend suggested using a pentrating oil on the bolts to aid in the losing and to keep me from snapping off the heads. I was planning on do this with the engine still in the car. I assume this should not be a problem. I also read that the torque on the bolts should be 18ft/lbs and I should work from the center and go out to tighten the bolts.

Thanks

No tricks. Straightforward. Replacing them. Now you run into some things to do.

Just soak the nuts with some wd-40 a day or 2 before. Not hard.
