Hi folks,
I have a 1969 spider, 2 barrel weber carb, it runs great once I get it started. Actually, it starts with no problem unless it sits 4 or 5 days. Then I have to squirt a little starting fluid into the carb to start it up, then I'm good until I let it sit for almost a week. Could the carb be draining the gas out into the cylinders? Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Fifth Kid.

Re: Carb problem
if its gas draining into the cylinders you oil will smell like gas
it sounds like an old fuel or vent hose, seeping air and allowing the gas to drain
or bad check valve -the one on the fuel in side
but thats just me
hope this helps.joe

Re: Carb problem
unless your carb body is cracked, the only feasible spot to leak is the accelerator pump
Re: Carb problem
Like Mark said, the only place the carb can really drain is the accel pump diaphram, and you would see it leaking. Certainly the fuel in the bowl can evaporate, and if it is hot out, quite a bit will evaporate in a week. And the fuel pump has a check valve to keep the fuel in the lines when it sits. When that check valve gets debris under it, all the fuel in the lines drains back to the tank and you have to crank like mad to get fuel up to carb again.
