Help!

Post by Zmatt »

I was able to get my 1976 Spider running. It idled a little rough but accelerated fine with a lot of power. I parked it and tried to start it back up and it has no power and will not stay running. I checked the point gap, timing and spark plugs and it still would not run. I then took the carburetor apart and cleaned it thoroughly (I had rebuilt it prior to all of this) and it still won't run. It misses, back fires though the carb and exhaust. It acts as if it is losing spark because it will run great for a second or two and then go sour again. I am at a loss of what to do. Help!

Condenser? I keep one or two in the glove box cause that stupid little part causes a disproportionate amount of headaches given it's size...

Thanks Danno,

I have ordered new ones from IAP and hopefully they will correct the problem. Unfortunately they are back ordered.

Just order them from somewhere else no reason to wait for IAP to send you a $5 part. Or, buy a different condensor. I've used the condensors from different years on any of the points cars. All you really have to do it make the stupid thing connect and bam it'll do the job. The only difference between the condensors is the way the hanger is mounted and how long the cable coming off it is. But, don't sit back over a $5 part just get one.

Or drop 1 condensor and 1 point and switch to single point. Most of the time the Fiat never switched which point was running anyhow. Odds are the second set of points and condensor aren't getting used much and are in working order.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of the advise! I replaced the condensers and all is well. It just sucks that both were new that I replaced.
