Weber 32 ADFA 11 rebuild, 78 Spider

Post by psg »

Any particular pitfalls with the rebuild of this Weber Carb? I have leaky shafts and see rebuild kits are available for about 40 dollars. Wondering if I would be better off looking for a rebuilt unit. psg

Leaky shafts?? The throttle shafts?? They shouldn't "leak"

Tell me more. The shaft ends on the front side of the carb... facing the front of the car are wet and fuel was down on the manifold.

The shafts simply run thru bushings, there should never really be any quantity of fuel there. That said, a tiny amount of fuel will get on shafts and a tiny amount of seepage/sweating from the shaft ends would be normal.
If there is actually fuel dripping from shafts, carb is overflowing or running raw fuel into intake. In which case it needs to be repaired.
Does it idle and run well?? Is there fuel dripping from shafts??

It hadn't been running for awhile (body and paint work). Fired it up and ran okay but died on a rough idle. Would not start and that is when I found gas on the floor and the ends of the shafts where wet and there was fuel that ran down the side of the carb pooled on the manifold before hitting the floor. I presumed there were o rings on the shafts that had gone hard.

Nope, no o-rings on shafts. Carb flooding over. As fuel leaks down inside carb some will run out the ends of the shafts.

As carbs go is an easy one to rebuild.

yes, that is what I am guessing and since I have been putting off the rebuild as the car has been sitting for many years before I got it this is my excuse to go through it. psg

Don't waste money on it. Do some research and get a bigger carb. 34 DMTRA is much better.

Joe could you clarify the two different sets of numbers you have used?

"the float should hang 14mm
hold the top vertical or upside down it should lay 6.5 or 7mm"

thanks psg
