these motor idle very smooth. you have a problem. sounds like you have a plug or injector not working at idle.

If this is your first FI spider it would help to set up the tuning for idle using Brad Artigue's Fiat maintenance manual. You should get a couple of maintenance manuals, but this one you can download right now. There's a good section on the L-Jetronic system of ours.

that engine should idle rock steady. Start with the basics; compression, then proper adjustments. Isolate which cylinder is causing the roughness

How did you identify the leak at the injector?

removed plugs found no 1 plug raw fuel on the tip reinstalled plugs ran engine sprayed carb cleaner near the injector and the idle smothed out also use a sonic ear to confirm the leak at the "O" ring.

This car is fuel injected and has an injector for idling (I do believe)

Yes, it has a cold start injector, but it's only activated for a few seconds on start up when the temp. is cool.

You are 100 % right Ron. I was thinking about it today and realized my silly error. But we still need to diagnose. HhhMmmm....

True. But we need more info to go by. Has timing (valve and ignition) been checked? It could be the throttle position sensor needs to be adjusted. Have the valve cleareances been checked?
In my case I had a problem with idling and it turned out to be my ignition timing was way off.
It doesn't sound like it's any of the other sensors, but step one would be to get all the adjustments in spec.
I used Brad Artigue's maintenance manual when I first got my car to get everything up to snuff:
http://www.artigue.com/fiat/tuning-book
Look for the section on the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection.
