Repeated failing dizzy seal?

About a week ago my distributor oil seal failed, pulled the dizzy and replaced the seal. No big deal. 30 minute fix. Drove it over the weekend and to work mon and tues, and today as I was changing my oil I decided to check the bottom of the dizzy for kicks to make sure it wasnt leaking, and WTF! its hemorrhaging oil again! This is the third seal for this distributor in 6 months! and the second in a week! When I changed it 6 months ago the seal looked to be fine, not cracked, rotted or anything like that. The same was the case last week. I haven't checked the condition of this seal yet but I expect it to look the same as the others. I've watched the video on IAPs site about how to do it, I've read the manual and checked the threads on here and I am positive I installed it correctly.

Why am I killing these things so fast?

How is the shaft at the area that the seal rides on? It may be pitted, grooved or rough. Check it with a magnifying glass, or at least feel it with your fingernail. If not to bad, you may be able to smooth it out with emery cloth. Also, the seal may be leaking on the side that meets the case, some sealant works here.

check you crank case vent "tube" if its kinked you motor will vent anyware it can
mine pushed oil out the dizzy

The shaft appeared fine both times I had it disassembled although I didn't examine it under a magnifying glass. There were no obvious signs of wear or fatigue.

And this is a brand new motor and I actually don't have the vent hose hooked up right now. The vapor separator dumps into the engine bay

Sometimes even after replacing the seal there is still a little bit of oil in the distributor body. It will get kicked up and flung around. Just keep sopping it up and watch it to see if it subsides over the next few days. If it still leaks, I got 2 new seals, but I need to keep one just in case.

Did all those seals come from the same place?

Before removing the seal that's in there, take the little spring off and cut off about 1/8" then re-mesh the coils and re-install.
