Re: whats making this noise?
They are old.
But they are tight and secure.
The engine does not hop in its mounts at all when I rev it or take off in first gear.
I am wondering if I am hearing induction noise from the carburetor? Something to do with valve overlap?

Re: whats making this noise?
"Sounds to me"---I really dislike that phrase, but it sounds to me like something is loose and vibrating.

Re: whats making this noise?
Nope thats not it.
I have an after market air cleaner on my empi carb. It uses spring clips.
I have lifted the hood to listen for this noise and it is not preaent.
It makes no change with the clutch in or out. Seems that something in the
drivers foot well must be loose.

Re: whats making this noise?
These kinds of rattles, bangs, and vibrations annoy the heck out of me and my driving pleasure. I usually get an accomplice (wife, son) to help me find the issue. You need a tube to go from your ear to the suspected area making the noise. You can buy a cheap stethoscope for under $20 at Walgreen's, Wal Mart or other drug store. You may want to rig up an extension to the main tube to reach farther. I have found numerous sources of rattling, grinding, squeaking, etc. just using a long piece of tubing to my ear.
best of luck,

I agree with the stethoscope, either a tube type or I have one that is steel wand that you touch to suspected areas. Once you catch the right area, your ears will ring.

Re: whats making this noise?
Thanks all.
I have looked further into this issue and have isolated it to the area above the steering column.
Thats a tuff area to get a hearing aid up into.. Will report more as it is found.

yes i agree>drivers side footwell
i know this sucks!so this is whati would do.
have a trusted friend or family slitghtly rev her up
while laying (most uncomfortly)up side up under the wheel
touching everything! one at a time, pull wires jently
check nuts and washers, push on frame work
the plastic well,the green powercable
are your gauges tight?im sure youll find it
