Adding Oil Gauge to 1978 CS1

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

I don't really need a clock I can't read, although the metaphor hasn't escaped me; I'd rather like an oil gauge.

Found one already (purple trim?), now I need to know what else I need to make it work: Can I parallel it off the idiot light or, as I suspect, must I replace the sending unit? Can I have both?

TIA,
Mark

Did you find an oil pressure gauge that the needle swings from the bottom like the other gauges in a 78?

I have a 78 too & am doing the same thing.
I ended up getting a gauge from a 82 Alfa that swings from the bottom, it looks real close to the other gauges.
I havn't installed it yet but I'm hopeing the Fiat sending unit will work with the Alfa gauge.
From what I found the Fiat sender isn't cheap but the Alfa one must be gold plated.

Yes you will need the gauge type sending unit, the one for the light is just an on/off switch not a variable signal for the gauge.
I have read on here about doing this & keeping both working, you'll have to do a search I don't remember where it was at.

Good luck & let us know how it goes

Mine's a 1968-78 124 Spider gauge, Veglia Borletti, top pivot, with a 5-wire plug, and from the photo in my folder no mechanical input.
