I want to replace the 4 into 1 'public washroom drain'-system on my 49-state 1978 1800 with a proper 4-2-1 system, and I'm trying to weed through contradictory or incomplete references to stock FIAT pieces and aftermarket replacements.grittracing wrote:what year spider and what size engine and if newer is it FI or turbo ?

I ran a tube header on my 1800 about 20+ years ago. It put out so much heat, it melted the rad overflow container.
If you use one, wrap it with the heat tape and make a heat shield with plain old roofing aluminum flashing to keep the heat from building up on the bottom side of the overflow storage container. It should not touch the header or the container.

I don't want a header. It's not the sound I'm looking for, and I hadn't even thought of the heat issues.
The stock FIAT 4-2-1 system is just fine for what I want, durable and inexpensive, even as parts become more scarce.

don't understand exactly what you ask about measurements ,
but if you want to change the 4-1 and replace with a good fiat 4-2-1 I might help, because I did the same, for the same reasons.
Fiat manifold exhaust FIAT 4166429-4 ( from an 'European" 1600cc Fiat 132 ) fits perfectly on the FIAT 132AB9A 4277590 head ( .77 spider, california ). Downpipe : 2 pipes ( don't think there are many different types (?) ).
Perfect fit : first contact with the crossmember, and just before hitting the damm thing with a hammer I realised that putting new enginemounts might do the trick ( engine higher and more backwards), and it worked. (lesson : violence is never an answer (except for balljoints ) )

I have chosen a route similar to that you have: 4151276-2, and the later 1592/1756 downpipe, which people who sell both tell me is the deeper of the two, to avoid a clearance problem. This will then plug in to one of the NOS Abarth systems you can find offered in the parts for sale section of this site. If nothing else it's a gorgeous piece of history, and this setup should sound like my dreams, once I twist the distributor a bit. Parts should be here about the time I get the car back from the metal guys, next week
