Coolant Temp Sensor (80 FI)

Post by forzaphil »

Hello there; a quick question for the forum.

I know that theoretically, the Coolant Temperature Sensor in the Tee at the front of the block is the most important sensor in our whole Fuel Injection system, but mine doesn't seem to make much of a difference plugged or unplugged. It seems like everyone says "The car shouldn't even run with this unplugged" but mine apparently does (Poorly mind you. Not drivable, but it will idle. See my post "Ignition Coil Wiring" for the full story.)

My question is, has anyone had a temp sensor that they could unplug and not have it make any difference? I am pretty sure the wires leading up to it are in good shape (checked resistance between plug at sensor and the terminal at the ECU with a reading of a few ohms.) Here is a video of it unplugged and then plugging it back in without any change.

If someone has had this happen, did you find out what the cause was? Thanks so much in advance!
