What is missing right behind the cold air intake? It looks like half a bracket there. I hope it's not important.

I've got that on my 1980 and nothing connected to it, I think it may have been for Air Horns?

All of your pollution control stuff is gone. The only thing that probably should have been left is the charcoal canister. The rest is no loss unless you live in California.

Thanks, I know the pollution stuff is gone (well, it's in a box). But that bracket looked like a tank of some sort belonged there. Having never seen the pollution stuff installed I have no idea if anything that looks absent was part of the pollutions items or just something that fell off and was never replaced.

The two bolt holes you see along the fender did house a bracket that held some pollution stuff. To the left of those two bolt holes is just empty space. If you look along the fender and see two more small bumps that is all just dead space. Nothing was there originally. If you pm me your email I'll send you a pic of the pollution stuff that goes on those two bolt holes if you are interested. As I stated previously it's not needed stuff but there should be a charcoal canister under that bracket that is used to vent gases from the gas tank and is beneficial to have.TronDD wrote:Thanks, I know the pollution stuff is gone (well, it's in a box). The charcoal canister is in the engine bay? Seems like it would make more sense in the trunk with the tank.
How is that canister hooked up? I'll have to check the parts boxes to see if I can find it.

Yup and the battery makes much more sense in the engine bay. Fiat and sense don't usually find themselves in the same sentence. However in this case the carbon filter is also hooked to the carb vacuum so it does make sense from the carb side. The canister should sit on a small ledge below and behind that cold air intake. One end should connect to a line from the gas tank. This line is probably capped in your engine bay somehwere by the brake booster. The other end connects to the carb base.TronDD wrote:The charcoal canister is in the engine bay? Seems like it would make more sense in the trunk with the tank.

The battery makes more sense in the trunk, dead over the axle for weight distribution and handling purposes

Re: What is missing from my engine bay?
I was going to say the same thing about the battery.
I did find the vent hose right where the canister should be. It looks like it was cut off from the canister and the end was filled with silicone caulk. I'd have to replace the short rubber hose to restore function for the canister. I haven't looked in the pile for that yet. I figure it's good to have, but not critical.

Re: What is missing from my engine bay?
I do prefer it in the trunk but when I look in my engine bay I see on the drivers side the brake booster, master cylinder, alternator, carb, intake, air cleaner and some other junk. Not so much on the other side and with a driver overloads the weight on that side. I hardly see that a 20lb battery in the center of the car helps with weight distribution, but I'm no expert.boogiedude wrote:The battery makes more sense in the trunk, dead over the axle for weight distribution and handling purposes

Also, the battery isn't subjected to the heat of the engine compartment. I've never had battery problems with corroded terminals.boogiedude wrote:The battery makes more sense in the trunk, dead over the axle for weight distribution and handling purposes

No the canister is not critical as evidenced by your car still operating fine. It does however serve a useful purpose by venting and processing vapors from the tank.

Re: What is missing from my engine bay?
you can get new canasters from Fleabay, I think the seller was laptopsales (or something like that), I bought one as the cost of me buy the carbonated charcoal, pulling the canister apart putting back together was simply not worth the cost of a new one??
