Carb Choice

Post by Mirabelli78 »

Hi guys,
I am building a 78 Spider, its pretty stock other then all the pollution stuff is gone. What carb do you guys recommend for all round performance and reliability ? The original one is a water choke but the main shaft is broken and I can't find a good local shop to rebuild it as I am clueless about carb rebuilding.

Any suggestions and why?

Thanks for your input

just installed this one on my 76 which had the smaller webber, you will need the spacer that socalmark sells, he bills it as a 20 mm spacer, in reality it is a 13 mm spacer, but it works with little modification. you will also need his throttle linkage adaptor .

when you get to that point i can send you pics and info on how to adapt the linkage

this carb is also available with an elec choke, i like that one for 88$ you can't beat the price

The empi that SoCalMark sells is a good cost conscious upgrade that many here on the forum have done. Another good choice is the weber 34adf. It's very similar to your 32 and should be virtually a straight swap. A little pricey though at around $500-$550.

If you can find a 34 dmsa in good shape, that might be an option as well. Manual choke so the water conections on the heater pipe and intake manifold will have to be directly conected/loop. Spacer needed there as well.
