FI ECU passthrough firewall

Post by mhuppert4 »

Hi Everyone, I'm currently changing my 79 Spider to FI since I still have to pass smog in CA....Boooooo! So I'm trying to find the proper location to drill the hole through the firewall for the FI harness to the ECU. If anyone has a FI car, could you share some photos of the area where the hole should go as well as the ECU mounting? I'd really appreciate it. I'm getting close to installing the new head/manifold, running the new fuel lines, so if I can see where to drill, that's another check off the conversion list. Thanks in advance! Mike

Here's a picture.

The ECU is on the right, the black plate on the left is the relay tray, and the pigtail with the green band is the wiring harness from the ECU.
The relay tray is held up by two screws into the bottom of the dash and the ECU just rests in a bracket, with one bolt holding up the back of it. You can see the part of the bracket in the upper/left of the ECU. They are positioned just under the glove box.
The silver bracket attached to the bottom of the relay tray is my addition, it holds a bulb for a footwell courtesy light, which I took out for the picture.

Hey Ron, thanks a lot for the picture. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Looks like I'll be making a hole this weekend!

You're certainly welcome. I'm just glad I didn't have to put it all together like you're going to do! But I do like the FI.
