Stuck transmission filler plug

Post by Rascal »

I can't seem to get the transmission filler plug out.
I'm thinking about getting a length of pipe to extent the wrench handle.
Any tricks from the experts to ease the task?

Thanks

Non-specific help, but a voice of experience. Make sure it's actually the filler plug. I tried to take what I thought was the filler plug out of the trans in my Chevelle and after struggling with it for a while, realized it was not the filler plug but part of what holds the gears together inside the case. I was glad I wasn't able to loosen it. :)

I ended up having to use vice-grips and a hammer. Thankfully the fill and drain plugs are both 17mm and I had an extra one on hand.

Both good ideas. A sanity check is always prudent.
The Haynes manual does indeed confirm I'm reefing on the right plug.
I'll get a spare before I pull out the vice grips/hammer. Auto-ricambi has them.
I know it's been at least 20 years since it's been opened.
