idle screw seems too far in

I adjusted the carb on my sons 78 124 with a 32 ADF the other day. The car has been running rough for the last couple of weeks. Low idle, popping, dies at lights with clutch engaged etc. I decided to pull the plugs and clean, replace fuel filter, double check the psi from electric fuel filter etc. Finally I decided to readjust the carb. I restored the carb to factory settings and proceeded from there. I noticed that in order to get the car to idle at 850-900 rpm I had to screw the idle screw all the way in. The car runs fine at this point but it seems strange that the idle screw needs to be all the way.

Is there something else that is beginning to fail or leak that is causing me to adjust the idle screww so far in?

if you have the mixture screw bottomed out, fuel is being supplied by another circuit. You may have a sinking float, leaking needle valve or throttle open too wide

Thanks for the response. When the mixture screw is completely seated the engine stops. Which it should? The screw that seems odd is the idle adjustment screw. I have to screw it all the way in which opens up the linkage in order to get it to idle at 850 rpm.
