Questions regarding timing
1978 124 Spider 1.8L stock motor and 5 speed. I checked my timing and the mark on the crank pulley lined up correctly at the center mark on the yellow timing belt cover while idling after warm-up. 2 things I am questioning. 1) I have a slight hesitation when goosing the throttle, more noticeable when revving quickly. Any ideas what this may be? 2) I used a spare battery to do the timing and when I disconnected the timing light from the #1 plug wire, the motor quit, dead. I tried to re-start and nothing. I waited a minute and noticed my CD player light came on and then off like the electrical was re-cycling. I again tried to start the car and it fired right up. Normal? What happened? Thanks!

#1 is probably the accelerator pump in the carb. With the car of, take your air cleaner off and while looking down the carb, quickly open the throttle with your hand. You should see gas squirt into the carb. If not, replace your accelerator pump diaphragm. I haven't been inside a Weber carb, but I assume there is also a check valve to prevent the pump from squirting the fuel back into the bowl, so check that too.
