Fuel pump spacer

Post by KalamazooJohnny »

There is a 1/2" spacer between the mechanical fuel pump and the engine. Will things work if that is not there? What is its function?

It needs to be there. Without it the actuating shaft on the pump will be in the wrong position on the axillary shaft. The phenolic material also serves as a thermal barrier between the engine and the pump so not to transmit the heat to the gasoline.

Is yours broken, missing, or cracked?

It was broken, but I replaced it when I put the new fuel pump on. I was just wondering if it was really necessary and what it was for. Thanks.
