Carb tubes layout photo -whats plugged and whats not?
Ok, here is how I set up the tubes to my carb when I removed the emissions stuff.
It is a 77 spider, 1800 with 32adfa carb. Does this look correct, or do you see something
I have done wrong?

I just rebuilt the same carb and mine is the same way

My car is a 76 and that looks exactly how mine is currently set up and my car is running great at the moment with no issues to speak of.

the nipple under the accelerator pump should be connected to the crankcase vent tube on the air cleaner

on mine there is only two being used the one for the gas filter,and the antifreeze side???

Perfect timing for post. I'm just about to put the carb back on my '76 and this will help visualize where everything goes. When I bought it, the carb and manifold were off of it. I could use my other '76 as a reference, and plan on it, but having a diagram I can print out and put next to me is perfect.
I'm not in front of my car right now, so forgive me if my memory is off...the picture mentions that all tubes to/from the intake manifold are plugged except for the brake booster. If I recall, my intake manifold only had a couple of areas to put tubes???

Tomsspider: I don't know much myself, but I think you ought to have that fuel return line connected. It should run back to the fuel tank. Do you have a charcoal canister in the car or has that been removed?
Clayfish: I plugged the hole where the thermovalve is too. I removed it and put a threaded plug in the hole. Its between the carb and the engine on the intake manifold. Then a threaded plug on the front/side of the intake manifold this was where a steel tube was connected which came I think from whats called an EGR, also,the same fitting with the hose that goes to the brake booster had another hose coming from it, so that got plugged, leaving only the hose to the brake booster.
Still learning myself, so I am open for correction.

I dont know if they had the canisters in 69?like I said the motor I beleave by the numbers is from a 74 I will be driving these guys nuts on this site with questions ,,Im glad I found this site,or did it find me?I do have hoses that are pluged coming from the manilfold

My charcoal canister is still in the car, though it was unscrewed from the mount. I may take it out, I'm sure it's worthless 35 years after it was first installed...

Charcoal can - I chose to keep mine because it was connected to the gas tank, and I didn't know if I should remove it or not, so I carefully cut the top off, dumped out the old charcoal, went to the pet shop and bought a box of charcoal and refilled it, then got some good epoxy and glued it back together. It took some work, as there is a spring inside (had to clamp stuff together). But it came out nice. Did that all when I replaced all the fuel lines.

Any chance you took any pictures when you had the canister apart?
I'm wanting to make my own (much smaller version)... or find one from another car and put it in. I understand that it's all about surface area so that the charcoal can absorb the fuel and limiting how small the canister can be. But I was hoping to make the thing look better.
You mentioned a spring inside of it? What was that for?

Shouldn't the small nipple just to the right of the accelerator pump connect to the distributor vacuum hose?

You rebuilt your carbon canister. Wow, I am really impressed! Seriously.
For the canister to work, not only does it need a hose to the tank vent, but some way to get the fuel vapors back out of the canister. So one of the smaller lines from the canister need to go to vacuum to do what they call "puge". PUrge needs to be hooked to ported vauum, and should only occur when engine warm, so you need a temp acutated valve of some sort too. And while purging, the line from the canister to the tank has to seal, so that you don't suck fumes directly from the tank into the engine. So there needs to be a valve that will shut off the tank vent. Usually this valve is operated by vacuum.This is why there is so much "stuff" under the hood, and it all has to work together.
So in a nutshell, if all you have is the tank vent line hooked up, pretty much ain't doin anything.

fuel evap systems were mandated for 1970. It's possible some mfgs starting using them earlier though
