Rear spring seats almost gone

Post by Lars4x4 »

My rear lower spring seats/lower shock mounts are almost gone. They are full of rust and holes and need fixing. Is it possible to buy new ones to weld in? I have searched for parts and informative threads without luck. Maybe my fiat is the only one attacked by rust?

Post a pic if you can. The lower seats for the springs are on the axle and these are the ones rusted out? I'd suggest if you are or know a quality welder, swap them out from a parts car somewhere that would have a pooched axle. I'd think though cutting the seats from a good axle might be a questionalble thing to do.
Perhaps they could be patched, but remember the strain on those parts and the weld would have to be a real good one.
Any parts cars in your area?

Its the ones welded on to the axle. I agree its better to swap the axle. Guess I can practice my weldingskills while looking for parts. I'm supprises how small amount of rust can hold the shocks in place ;)

Oh no they are all attacked by rust... just in varying degrees... My 74 was so bad I had to cut it up fror scrap...Luckily, I found another spider that is in way better shape... still lots of rust but not so bad in the structural stuff like my '74.. this was the problem FIAT did very little to combat rust on the early cars. As a result they got a bad rap.
