Bosch coil application

Post by pooldoctorstl »

Does anyone know if I can use a Bosch blue coil in a Marelli Plex system? I have a 1976 parts car with a new blue coil and I might put it in my other car (1982) with the Plex ignition, but I have noticed that IAP only sells the Bosch blue coil for the older cars, and the only way they sell a new coil for the Plex systems is with a new finned housing and module. There must be a reason. :?:

The Bosh blue coil has primary and secondary resistances close to those of a points type coil. If you want a coil for an electronic breakerless system you need a coil with the proper primary resistance. This Accel coil has the proper resistances: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-8145/

Here is how to measure a coil. http://www.international-auto.com/fiat- ... n-coil.cfm

FYI those readings are for the breakerless electronic coil. A points coil will have a much higher primary resistance.

Matt,

Thanks for the info, I won't be installing it on the later model car.
