I have a problem with the choke on my 34 ADF carb, the auto choke works in as far as when you have pressed the gas peddle to the floor twice before starting the choke flap operates but the fast idle does not work until I have driven away, resulting in initial rough running. So when I'm a hundred yards or so down the road suddenly the fast idle works and the carb is fine. I had the unit off last year and checked that nothing was sticking but the problem persists. I also tried converting to a manual choke but no joy.
Any ideas ?

Probably a vacuum leak. Start it cold and spray some carb. cleaner around the throttle shafts. There are little seals on them tht leak over time. Also spray lightly around the choke and the rest of the carb. If it idles up, problem found.

I find a lot of those mechanisms gummed up. Have you opened the choke assy?
