So stoked! I just got my set of engine gaskets for my 77 today from IAP.
Any big picture things i should be thinking of when heading in to replace these fellas?

Lemme know. Thanks!

are you going to replace all of the gaskets and seals? Make sure you lube the inner lip on the seals before installing them

Before lifting the head, don't forget to disconnect the heater pipe that hides beneath the exhaust manifold. Remove the head slowly, and as soon as separation occurs, look and find the two hollow locating pins before proceeding further, and don't lose them into a coolant or oil cavity

Well,

All installation went well. . . until it came time to start it up.
I think we may have disconnected wiring of the fuel pump by accident.
Anybody know what the car would sound like if so?
right now i turn the key and it tries o so very hard to turn over, but the little guy just can't handle it.

we have determined for sure that the carburetor is not getting gas. but we can't figure out why. all our hoses are connected the fuel pump is working fine as we have found fuel in the fuel filter. what this last step is, we can't tell.
any advice?

Mechanical or aftermarket electrical fuel pump? Have you unplugged the fuel line from the carb and cranked(end of line in a can). It should push gas from the mecanical. If not, is fuel getting to the pump? Has someone stuck an inline filter and it might be plugged? An old tank could have a bit of rust in it and the flakes can bung up a filter in a hurry. Have access to an air line? Perhaps blow back to the tank and listen for bubbles.

All of those are great suggestions.
It has an electrical pump, which was (DUH) not getting power.
In-line filter was just replaced.
Everything is working great now.
Thanks!
