Back again, car idled for about 20-30 minutes. It is a 69 124AS Spider. Noticed the radiator hose was collapsed. There was no loss of fluid. There is no fluid in the overflow. When sitting the hose does seem fairly pliable. I opened the radiator cap and released the pressure so hose would expand. Started it for enough time to back it off a trailer and hose had already collapsed. Had only been running for a few minutes. Not long enough to overheat. What could be some of the causes? How do I test the possibilities? Thanks, Mik

is the t stat installed correctly? orientation??? fill the system completely== burb the system-- how old is the water pump??

Will check out. I have had the car for 40 years and have not driven the car except to drive to storage for a number of years. The water pump was probably changed out with the timing belt many years ago. Sorry for not being specific, just been too many years. Want to start driving car during our summer months.

Odd. Does it overheat? The timing belt needs to be changed after sitting like that.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Usually only run for 15-20 minutes during the winter. Have not seen signs of overheating. Has been stored indoors always. The timing belt is in really good shape, not being in the elements. Will probably work on learning how to switch out just to be safe. Could the hose just be too soft, pliable to maintain shape?

Well That should be enough time for the engine to heat up and everything should have expanded by that point. I suppose you have filled the system? The rubber timing belt as with all rubber pieces deteriorates with time and this is a very crucial piece. If it fails major engine damage!

Good point. I open the rad cap and fluid is sitting right there. Is there a chance that it is solution just sitting there with less in the radiator? Or, if it is the top of the rad, it should be considered full. I know there is no solution in the reservoir. Thanks for the help. Mik

top off rad and fill res about half way-- then burb
