Hello,
would like your help concerning engine noise.
Good working motor but lot of noise -valves I think - even when motor is hot. I checked valve clearance
In the topic " loid engine noise" you ( = the Forum United) talk about a possible leak in exhaust causing this kind of noise.
And using a stetoscope to finding the solution ( or the cause).
could you give some more information ( what should I have to hear, ( sound of leaking, the valves but louder ?..)? )or other causes ?
thanks in advance,
groeten, Geert.

Re: engine noise - valves
if your tolerances are out to the maximum, you can get lots of valve clatter. I assume you have also checked to make sure you are getting oil to the cam.
On the subject of an exhaust leak, you can use a rubber hose as a stethoscope. put one end in your ear and run the other along the seam between the head and the header. if you have a leak, noise will be much louder at that point. mine always leaked just below the dizzy. also, the outside corners are most prone to leak.
