Did I just ruin my brand new camshaft?

Did I just ruin my brand new camshaft?
Ok here's a lesson learned... I took my aluminum parts to get blasted so they would look good and new. I cleaned everything up as best I could after I picked them up. I got home and wanted to test fit the new camshafts I just got from Mark. Well now here's the thing... apparently he blasted the Inside of the cam towers too.... effectively turning the can surfaces into sandpaper. There is some scratching on the camshaft surface closest to the front of the motor.... The surface there is wide.. I would say 2 inches wide and there is some light scratching on about a 1/4 inch of it. Should I try to polish it out somehow or just leave it? damn this has been a crappy week... Luckily I do have another set of cam towers. I am guessing they are the same for 1800 head and 2L head?

I'm a bit confused (happens a lot) is the cam scratched on a lobe, or on a bearing surface?? Are the CAM surfaces like sandpaper?? Scratches not huge deal, If it is on a bearing surface just clean it up. Lobe could be more serious, but realisticly tiny scratches are not going to create disaster. Picture? Clarification?

Not on a lobe on a bearing surface, the one closest to the front of the motor, the widest one. My camera sucks... what should I use to clean it up?

That should have been taped off, imo. I have never bead blasted the insides and always taped off the tappet passeges as well.

you MUST thoroughly wash all parts that have been blasted. Any media left in the motor will make it to the oil pump and then the bearings. If the cams are scratched on the bearing surface you should be able to polish it out. After you polish the bearing surfaces, wash them also. I'd also use compressed air and blow out all of the oil passages

What would I use to polish them out? Are the 2L and 1800 cam towers the same?

I'm pretty sure all the cam towers are the same.....can anybody else confirm this?

Wow, you are having an exceptionally crappy week. Get in touch with Jim or Allen, one of those guys will know exactly what you should do and both are very good about helping out.
I'm reasonably certian the cam towers are all the same, at least on the 1.8 and 2.0 L cars. Why on earth would someone sand or bead blast the inside of a part? Fortunately, these parts are easy to come by.

Yea to boot, my Camaro broke down Monday, shifter cable broke. No biggie but I lost some work time and my gout has been threatening to flare.. oh then there's work..., on a brighter note, the weather is incredible! ^_^

I think Guy Croft would recommend a fine scotchbrite pad.

I think I'd replace the boxes, if I had another set available. There's no telling how much material was removed, and that would be a lot of expensive re-work if the tolerances were shot.
