Post by henry »

I'm having problem with the 3rd. gear again!.... I don't know if is the sync. or not, because the problem starts only after the car runs for a while (hot). Any suggestions, Thank You.

Can you be mor specific as to the problem? Does it not stay in gear?, Is it grinding?

Anyone else can chime in here, but after just having rebuilt mine, I would suspect the syncnro. When you fixed it last time how did the gear look- any marking or burring? did you change the synchro spring? A silly question, but do you drive with your hand continuously resting on the shifter? It wears on the internal parts. :( How is the fluid level? Is the clutch adjusted properly? Just throwing out ideas here. What ewlse can you tell us??

Well I didn't fixed the gear myself so I don't know how it looked, I don't know if the synchro spring was changed, I do tend to drive sometimes resting in the shifter; I will check the clutch adjustment and the fluid level. Thank you.

Mine (synchro) has been bad for a couple years now.I missed a shift badly at high rpm  .I still drive the car hard ,but match the rpms to get it into gear w/o a grind.I have gotten pretty good at it.When driving non-aggresively,I skip 3rd gear and go 2nd-4th.I am just saying that it isnt neccesary to pull the tranny right away, you can preserve it for a while. How long...stay tuned!!

I did that when I lost second gear. Synchro was shot. I would scream in first and then go to third. But since the car is getting a total rebuild from the bottom up, the tranny was on the list. The project has only been going on 7 years and I still dont have it back on the road. Talk about a disease...
