Do late 1970/early 1980 Fiats have a speed limiter (governor)? Are these easy to remove?

Yep it's called the engine! It definitely limits your speed! Never heard of putting a speed limiter on a 4 banger
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Re: Speed Limiter
Kent124, I could be wrong on this but I have never come across a governor or read anything about one. Thinking about where one would be hooked up to function, I would have to say No. These cars were never really sold in the states with significant HP that would warrant a limiter. I'm still looking for the "Spitzer valve". When I find it I'll get some gauze, 20 weight ball bearings and have a go at increasing speed.

I don't know why the question was asked but if you sense the car isn't accelerating fast enough...Kent124 wrote:Do late 1970/early 1980 Fiats have a speed limiter (governor)? Are these easy to remove?
1979-on they have a vacuum operated distributor advance that, if not connected and operating properly, significantly reduces the acceleration of the cars. Verify that it works. Ignore people who say you can manually advance the car to compensate; it is a cheap part, replace it if broken.
1979-80 they have a Weber ADHA carburetor. The ADHA is a tiny carburetor with a vacuum operated secondary and a pathetic intake manifold. If the secondary is not operating then the car will have an artificial limit (no secondary throttle).
1975-on they have a Weber ADFA carburetor. It has a mechanical secondary but isn't a performance carburetor. If the secondary is gummed up it might not open all the way; worth inspecting and cleaning. This carb (32ADFA), installed on the 1979/80 and with the 1800 manifold perform much better than the ADHA on the "boat anchor" 2000cc manifold.
A camshaft that is retarded a tooth on the belt can really zap the performance.
Incorrect timing can zap it.
Bad ignition components can zap it.

Mine is blonde and sits in the seat next to me. Also, any sideways motion engages the fierce glare and shriek.Kent124 wrote:Do late 1970/early 1980 Fiats have a speed limiter (governor)? Are these easy to remove?
Easy to remove but the consequences are dreadful.

Zippy, just remove the passengers seat and you have instant warp speed!!
Is this guy taking about a speed limiter or rev limiter.

Re: Speed Limiter
Its not the engine, its the body. If the body was more aerodynamic the car could go faster with the engine it has. Just grab some bondo and turn it into a big teardrop and it will be able to go much faster...
